The tragic murders in public schools across the country have captured the attention of the public and politicians, but efforts to "do something" have not stopped the violence. The policy issues of media violence and gun control intersect at the issue of changing attitudes about guns and violence in the U.S. -- an intersection that needs more attention. Meanwhile, schools need to examine whether they are doing enough to help all their students -- by preventing bullying, minimizing feelings of alienation, and getting to know all their students. The National Center for Policy Research for Women and Families will get the word out on what research can tell us about how to prevent violence in America.
