Social Security needs to be changed to assure adequate benefits when the baby boomers retire. Most of the retirees who receive Social Security benefits are women, and women rely more on Social Security than men because they are less likely to have employer-provided pensions. Even those women who have pensions receive on average half the monthly benefits that men receive. Any organization that cares about the health and well-being of women and families needs to care about Social Security, and so the National Center for Policy Research for Women and Families will help to get the word out about the implications of proposed changes in the Social Security system.
